PURPOSE
The purpose of the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) is to promote a safe and healthy workplace, identify and recommend corrective actions for hazards, and support compliance with WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. This Joint Health and Safety Committee applies to all company operations, active projects, and temporary worksites operated by Canwide Steel Ltd.
COMMITTEE MEMBERS
The committee is comprised of representatives appointed by the employer and representatives chosen by the workers.
MEETING FREQUENCY
The committee will meet at least once per month or more frequently if required.
QUORUM
A quorum will consist of at least 50% of committee members, including at least one worker representative and one employer representative.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The committee will:
- Participate in workplace inspections
- Review incidents and investigations
- Identify workplace hazards
- Make safety recommendations to the employer
- Promote health and safety awareness
- Review corrective actions
- Assist in maintaining compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements
WORKPLACE INSPECTIONS
Committee members will participate in regular workplace inspections and document findings and corrective actions.
MEETING MINUTES
Minutes will be recorded for each meeting and posted or made available to workers as required.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Recommendations made by the committee will be submitted to the employer for review and response.
TRAINING
All committee members will receive required JHSC training in accordance with WorkSafeBC requirements.
ANNUAL REVIEW
The committee will conduct an annual evaluation of its effectiveness and review these Terms of Reference annually.
